A dream cast assembles for a musical tribute to the recently departed American filmmaker.
Among the great directors of our time, David Lynch was arguably the most musical—his films not only suffused with sound and listening but often structured around them. As a creator, performer, singer, producer, and sound designer, he was a master of repurposing existing music in striking, unexpected ways. In a finely crafted concert dramaturgy, the evocative soundtracks of Lynch’s most iconic films are performed live on the stage of the Opéra: alongside Angelo Badalamenti’s indelible Twin Peaks theme and John Morris’s score for The Elephant Man, Roy Orbison’s ‘In Dreams’ in Blue Velvet, and Lynchian tracks by David Bowie, Chris Isaak, and Jimmy Scott. Music plays the leading role in this evening designed as an imaginary film.
