British trombonist and composer Alex Paxton joins HYPERDUO for a concert entirely devoted to his sonic imagination. A recent work co-commissioned by Musica, That One Friend for trombone and electronics provides the programme’s point of departure: a virtuosic, colour-saturated writing in which pop pulses, queer energy, and cartoonish humour disrupt the conventions of the concert format. Around it unfolds a music that is exuberant and unpredictable, shifting abruptly from unrestrained lyricism to rhythmic eruptions, between controlled chaos, harmonic flashes, and constant invention.
