Les Vivantes

The experiment in audience-led curation continued in 2023 with a group of Master’s students in Performing Arts at the University of Strasbourg, who named themselves “Les Vivantes”. Their task was to define an artistic approach — staged music — and a theme — the safe space; to draw up a brief for a call for projects aimed at young composers from the Strasbourg Conservatoire and the Haute École des Arts du Rhin; and to select projects according to criteria they had established themselves.

After exploring staged musical works during the 2022 festival, the students met weekly to develop their brief and decide how to make choices as a group. This involved extensive discussions among the students, with the festival team and with theatre director Pauline Ringeade. As part of their professional development, the students also followed the creative process closely, contributing to production, audience engagement and communication.
