5th national meetings on equality in music
Uneasy Conversations/Conversations inconfortables: Imagining Feminist and Progressive Artistic and Cultural Organisations
In the face of the global backlash against the rights of women and gender minorities, and following the alarming conclusions of the French parliamentary inquiry into violence in the field of arts and culture, chaired by Sandrine Rousseau, Futurs Composés raises a simple yet radical question for the 2025 edition of its national professional meetings on equality: How can we envision feminist and progressive artistic and cultural organisations? And where do we begin?
How can we rethink work standards in light of real equality? What responsibilities do cultural institutions bear when confronted with sexist and sexual violence? What can be done when the law is not enough? How can we support victims in their process of repair, of detachment from their aggressor? How can we design intersectional, non-racist workplaces? How can we nurture care in a professional environment that is often precarious, competitive, and underfunded?
For the members of Futurs Composés, the starting point is to create the conditions that allow for, and sustain, uneasy conversations. This edition will therefore open itself to such unsettling spaces in order to lay the groundwork for reinvented professional and collective practices.
As part of a European cohesion initiative, an international day will be organised on Saturday 4 October 2025. It will bring together actors engaged in combating sexist and sexual violence in the musical and cultural fields, with the aim of sharing the realities of different national contexts, identifying common challenges, pooling resources, and strengthening solidarities on a transnational scale.
