National Gathering on Equality & Inclusion

Since 2021, Musica has hosted the annual National Meetings on Equality & Inclusion, organised by Futurs Composés, France’s national network for contemporary music.

Bringing together composers, performers, artistic directors, programmers, producers, ensemble managers, festival teams and representatives of cultural institutions, these meetings provide a forum for critical debate, professional exchange and collective action. Their shared ambition is to address structural inequalities, challenge discrimination and reshape the conditions in which new music is created, produced and presented.

From gender equality and the prevention of sexual and gender-based violence and harassment to questions of representation, access to professional opportunities, artistic freedom and institutional responsibility, the discussions examine the power dynamics shaping the contemporary music landscape. Particular attention is given to commissioning practices, programming choices, recruitment, working relationships and the distribution of resources and visibility across the sector.

Combining roundtable discussions, participatory workshops and peer-to-peer exchanges, the meetings encourage professionals to share experiences, question established models and develop practical approaches to more equitable and inclusive working environments. Beyond raising awareness, they seek to strengthen professional solidarity and turn shared commitments into meaningful changes in artistic and organisational practices.

By hosting this national gathering within the festival, Musica contributes to an ongoing dialogue about the future of contemporary music creation, and the collective responsibility of those who commission, produce, perform and present it.
