Director Calixto Bieito and novelist Karl Ove Knausgård have co-created a new take on Henrik Ibsen’s masterpiece Peer Gynt, set to music by Edvard Grieg: the poetic and philosophical tale no longer unfolds from Peer Gynt’s perspective, but through the eyes of Solveig, the young woman he abandons after seducing her. Waiting for one’s beloved becomes the central theme of this new libretto, accompanied in symphonic passion by some of the Norwegian composer’s finest pages.
