Intermezzi

More than a concert, Intermezzi is a series of instrumental actions, based on a portrait of Ensemble Musikfabrik. The musicians ‘posed’ for the composer, who captured their visions, interests and behaviours in his ‘sketches’. The result is a motley collection of situations fashioned after each person’s idioms. Why is the ‘intermezzo’, a transitional piece, often marginal in major works of music? ‘Because there is no subject. It is only in-between, only interludes’, replied Georges Aperghis.
