Premiered at the Donaueschingen Festival in 2025, Tell Tales by Georges Aperghis is a musical “conversation” for six voices and viola, conceived as a theatre of voices and sound. Performed by Tabea Zimmermann and the vocal ensemble EXAUDI under the direction of James Weeks, the work weaves a polyphony in which timbres, rhythms and vocal utterances respond without pause. The listener traces a path through a labyrinth of voices, shaped by echoes, bifurcations, games of address and a constantly renewed sonic energy, where each inflection may open a new space for listening.
