HUNTER

Drawing on Björk’s album Homogenic as its matrix—and in particular on the song “Hunter” whose sense of pursuit and tension it echoes—Liesa Van der Aa’s new piece takes the form of a staged work situated between concert, performance, and theatre. Set on a basketball court, eight singers form a team subjected to rules, expectations, and constant pressure. Electronic beats, a cappella polyphonies, and collective gestures shape this “game,” in which discipline, control, and conformity are continually rehearsed and renegotiated. Between repetition and mounting tension, the piece exposes the mechanisms of a world in which one must keep going at all costs, perform without fail, and never falter—until breaking point.
