A leading figure in contemporary Irish music, Donnacha Dennehy is the founder of Crash Ensemble and one of the key architects of Dublin’s contemporary music renewal. His piece Land of Winter, whose recording received the 2026 Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music / Small Ensemble Performance, unfolds a writing that is both precise and physical, shaped by micro-intervals and repetitive processes. Inspired by the landscapes of western Ireland, the piece unfolds through slowly evolving masses of sound, as pulsations and shifting densities shape a musical space suspended between memory, persistence, and transformation.
