Gavin Bryars + Claire M Singer
A rare treat: the English composer takes the stage with his ensemble, followed by Scottish organist Claire M Singer.
For the first time at Musica, Gavin Bryars (b. 1943) will appear in a project curated by writer David Sanson. While this major English composer is best known for his hits The Sinking of the Titanic and Jesus’ Blood Never Failed Me Yet, as well as his collaborations with Bob Wilson, Merce Cunningham, and Carolyn Carlson, much of his work remains seldom heard in France. Bryars himself will perform on double bass and conduct his ensemble, joined by soprano Sarah Gabriel, revisiting thirty years of vocal compositions—most notably his Adnan Songbook (1995), set to texts by the Lebanese poet and painter Ethel Adnan. In the second half, Scottish composer Claire M. Singer will present a new work written specially for the organ of Saint-Paul Church.
This event is presented by David Sanson, musical programmer for the Abbaye de Noirlac and the Musiques Démesurées festival (Clermont-Ferrand).
