Sciences Po Strasbourg welcomes Bolivian musician Carlos Gutiérrez Quiroga, member of the Orquesta Experimental de Instrumentos Nativos, to discuss the case of Andean music — between preservation and decolonization.

In Bolivia, the Orquesta Experimental de Instrumentos Nativos (OEIN) is a contemporary music ensemble dedicated to preserving the musical traditions of the Andes while creating new works. Composer Carlos Gutiérrez Quiroga, a member of OEIN since the early 2000s, is the artistic director of Contra la extinción, a concert combining experimental compositions with ancestral indigenous music, to be presented at Le Maillon on 3 October 2025 at 7pm.

In conversation with Anaïs Fléchet, Professor of Contemporary History at Sciences Po Strasbourg, and Geremia Cometti, Professor of Anthropology at the Strasbourg Institute of Ethnology, Carlos Gutiérrez Quiroga will address the identity issues of Andean music and its place within the country’s decolonization policies.
