Poland focus

Musica shines a spotlight on Polish new music with guest ensemble Spółdzielnia Muzyczna Contemporary Ensemble.

Experimental and new music are thriving in Poland. A new generation is transforming the country’s musical life, fully aware of the legacy of major 20th-century figures such as Karol Szymanowski, Henryk Górecki, and Krzysztof Penderecki. Warsaw and Kraków are its epicentres, particularly through their flagship festivals — Warsaw Autumn, Sacrum Profanum, and Unsound. Outstanding ensembles have emerged in this context, including Spółdzielnia Muzyczna Contemporary Ensemble.

Through three concerts — including one in collaboration with the French ensemble 2e2m — the Kraków-based ensemble presents a rich panorama of Poland’s young composers, featuring works by Grażyna Bacewicz, Wojtek Blecharz, Piotr Peszat, Teoniki Rożynek, Rafał Ryterski, and Anna Sowa.

Alongside the concerts, various meetings and exchanges between artists, artistic directors, and music professionals will be held, with the aim of establishing new lines of dialogue between Polish and French musical life.
