An entire session of the Music and AI conference is dedicated to Alexander Schubert, a pioneering composer and multidisciplinary artist in the use of artificial intelligence and new technologies.
Alexander Schubert studied bioinformatics and earned a degree in computer science with a focus on cognition and neural networks before dedicating himself fully to musical composition and multidisciplinary projects. He is Professor at the Musikhochschule in Hamburg and Artistic Director of the electronic studio at the Lübeck Conservatory. He is also co-founder of the Decoder Ensemble.
Following his monumental Asterism, presented in 2021, Musica will host the world premiere of Eternal Dawn (19–21 September 2025), a stage work dealing with virtuality, identity, transhumanism, and artificial intelligence, questioning the potential, implications, and risks of digital technologies.
The talk with Alexander Schubert takes place as part of the Music and AI conference, presented with the European Network for the Philosophy of Music (ENPM) and the Centre de recherche et d’expérimentation sur l’acte artistique (CREAA) at the University of Strasbourg. Scholars are invited to engage in dialogue with the artist through a selection of his works.
